Okay, where to begin.......... - Madagascar Reviews
To start out with, the cast is great, what could go wrong with Chris Rock and Ben Stiller being in the same movie? The movie had a good start with good jokes and me and my friend chuckled a few times, after the 1st 30 minutes the jokes got a little childish and dull,my friend even fell asleep a little bit.The voice over acting is good which helps out the lame and rather predictable story, although i will admit that the cgi in this movie were rather good, and as a gamer i have seen better though, but still the kids will probably enjoy this one,so if you want to take your kid to see this movie,go for it,though some adults will find it a little boring,so all in all, your family may or may not enjoy it.
A waste of your time - Madagascar Reviews
A promo I watched for "Madagascar" deluded me into believing this would be a dumb but funny movie. How wrong I was... all the funny parts were condensed into the promo, leaving me with nothing to enjoy but the good graphics. There is no plot whatsoever, the characters become increasingly annoying as the film wears on, the filmmakers force in some strange moral at the end--"don't eat your friends," basically--and there was little or no coherence between scences. If I hadn't been enjoying the popcorn, I'd have walked out of the theater an hour into the film.
Dreamworks has put out some amazing, well thought-out computer animated movies in the past... I only hope "Madagascar" is not indicative of a Disney-like downward spiral of quality of ideas!

Even my mom liked it. - Madagascar Reviews
This movie took a little time (maybe five minutes) at the beginning to get started. Well it needed it to set up the premise. But after that it was almost non stop laughter. Plenty of jokes for kids, and possible even more for the adults. Seiously go see this just for the peguins and monkeys if not for the rest of a truly enjoyable movie.
Madagascar was terrible! - Madagascar Reviews
As a parent, I was so excited to see a new animated kids movie coming to the theather and was happy to rush out and see it, but it was extremely disappointing. My three year old thought it was good and was entertainined (mostly by the music), but it really lacked any adult excitement. The animation is so-so compared to other big animated hits and the characters were all really blah or just plain neurotic. And the story line seemed so thrown together at the last minute. Even the ending didn't really seem like a place to end. You leave the theather thinking, well what happens next and why did I just pay to see that!
Great for the whole family - Madagascar Reviews
combines a lot of great qualities: funny, witty, solid story, amazing animation and some deeper messages.. My kids loved it and so did my wife and myself. This type of universal appeal is rare in movies.

Sometimes crude - Madagascar Reviews
My 7 year old thankfully didn't get some of the jokes, and there was a HELP sign that soon said HELL (it is rated PG after all). Aside from a few crude jokes, Madagascar was a great movie. The scenery looked almost real sometimes, and the characters were very funny, we both laughed a lot. Even though things don't go as planned all the time, the animals don't give up.
I like to move it! move it! i like to move it! - Madagascar Reviews
That song is stuck in my head! I loved this movie! All of the adults in the theater enjoyed the movie as much as the kids did. This movie is a lot of fun and perfect for a family outing.
Its the "friends" of the jungle - Madagascar Reviews
Took my 5yr old, Alexis and her friend Mackenna, they loved it, I loved the scenery, the jokes, and the penquins. It has something for everyone. The penguins rule!!!! Chis Rock delivers an excellent performance, David Schwimmer is the perpetual hypochondriac
-Dont Miss it!

This one's worth the money. - Madagascar Reviews
All in all it is a good family movie. you know how all these movies are coming out and saying that their great for the whole family, but their not. Well this one is. the story's good.Plus the All star voice over cast did a exellent job too.
Plus the penguins are irresitebly funny.
It was just okay. - Madagascar Reviews
I saw Madagascar last night, and to be honest. It did not compare to any of the "Pixar" "Dreamworks" films that have been made before. It seems like they rushed the making of the film, and didn't have that great of a story lined up. The Penguins made the movie, but they were in it for maybe 3 minutes maximum. There was a-lot of fun singing early in the movie, but then it seemed as if they were just trying to take up time, sense they ran out of ideas for the next scene. I am a big animation fan, but I wish I would have waited to rent it on DVD, because it is not worth seeing in the theaters. I was not the only one disappointed. My fiance, and a-lot of kids shared the same let down.
I give this a C-
wait to see it on DVD.
Amusing, liked by kids... but average film - Madagascar Reviews
Over the years, we have enjoyed family movie after movie in which animation experts have amazed us with visuals that rivet the edge of expectations, and dialog that engages young and old alike. The Lion King, Toy Story (and the sequel), Bugs Life, The Emporers New Groove, Shrek (and 2, too), Chicken Run, Find Nemo and the Incredibles are the highlights of a list of animation films that have took aim at its duel composition audience of children and their parents. Creating stimulating visuals that amaze and captivate the children, along with slapstick and catch-word humor for the kids, Disney, Pixar & Dreamworks have found a way to make the children laugh. All the while, another layer of dialog and action (through puns and nuance) began to immerse the parents with funny sitcom-esque humor. This has been done successfully so many times now (siting my list of movies above as proof), the expectation of the families going to heavy-hyped animated films today is very high. Enter "Madagascar".
This new feature length cartoon by Dreamworks is just that, a cartoon. Intentionally flattening the visuals for a more "cartoon" look, the film is not as stunning as other 3D wonders like Shrek, Finding Nemo or even Toy Story, and aims at a retro feel to comfort parents with the subtle change back to a more 2D world. The problem is, it didn't work. Not because of the visual change, but because the film not only acquired the "cartoon" look, its writing also harkened back to one-level dialog and action. Even this would have worked, if the directors and writers knew which audience they were targeting, but as the movie rolls on, its apparant they don't.
Some scenes are pure eye candy, with lost of hitting and falling down, laughing and child-like chuckling. It is fun, but clearly meant for the kids. The next scene is completely adult level dialog with the little ones in the theatre looking like they are listening to a lecture on quantum physics. And the jaunt continues through the entire film. Really in no part of the film does the writing manage to speak to both the kids and children at the same time. And this is dissappointing, because the story is actually quite good. I went to this movie with my kids and they clearly liked the slapstick and catch-phrase humor. But with just days later, the usual mimicking of key scenes, and trailer phrases are all but gone from their memories. They liked the moment, but weren't rivetted by it, which is unusual for a top hyped animation film in a summer.
With equal ambivalence, my wife and I enjoyed the film, but were not sad to see it end. In the end, this film needed better writing to be a blockbuster kids/family movie. It failed to grab and hold our attention with an engaging story (such as and epic like Lion King). It failed to amuse much longer than a few seconds. The visuals while a nice reprieve to simpler dimensions, didn't hold the film. And the music was pretty much non existant save a single song of humor by the forest of leaping lemurs on the namesake island of the film, Madagascar.
While no one in your family will hate you for going to this movie, none of you will remember much of it in a week either. While still the best children/family film yet to release this summer, that is not saying much since this is in a category with not much other attractions coming this season. My advice- wait for DVD or rental on this one. If you are having a simply boring Saturday and want to go to a movie, be sure to go to the matinee showing, so at least you will save a little on the entry fees. I am sure I will be hated by many for dissing a good kids animation film, but this flick is simply mediocre- nothing more, nothing less.

A must-see! you will be roaring with laughter! - Madagascar Reviews
Madagascar is a very funny movie. It is a film that you should take the kids to. This movie is almost as good as the pixar and Shrek films. The visuals are very good. Of cvourse all of these kind of movies with the great visuals like Toy Story, Shrek, Robots, A Bug's Life, Finding Nemo, The Incredibles and many other movies which have these great visuals. I always fall for the great visuals, whether I like the movie or not, I always do. But this movie was very funny and a great movie to take the family to. So gather up the family and get to the theater and see MADAGASCAR, you will be roaring with laughter.
Do you like to move it - move it? - Madagascar Reviews
We did!
I went and saw this movie with my husband, who?s 23, my little sister, who?s 6 years old, & my 18 month old son. We all enjoyed it! To me it wasn?t the best movie ever - but it defiantly had it?s moments. For all four of us it was around $40 to see it & that was well worth it!
This is the highest I have rated a movie yet, there isn?t a lot that can go wrong with an animation film it seems. All actors did their parts well, but I am a little bias since I?m a huge Ben Stiller and Chris Rock fan. They story is very original, at least unlike anything I?ve seen in my 21 years. The story is a little drawn out, probably because there are children watching, but you get the idea that Alex the Lion (Stiller) and Marty the Zebra (Rock) have a difference of opinion on where they should be living. Marty longs for the wild, and when he attempts to take matters into his own hands it *seems* to fail. But through an unlikely string of events his fantasies become reality. And now Alex, who was the major attraction at his New York Zoo, has to battle his desire to return to the zoo & devouring his best friends, and try to live in ?the wild?.
This movie gives you tons of wonderful characters, besides the 4 main characters. The penguins, for example, serve as a constant source of one liners that made the audience crack up. And the Malagasy locals, a type of lemur, are an interesting side story in the grand scheme of things.
All in all - a worth while movie with realistic expectations.
Ps - I read the info about this movie, and pregnant Hippo? When did that happen? I would have thought I would have noticed something like that?
Dreamworks flops again - Madagascar Reviews
After seeing Antz, and Shark Tale, one would think that Dreamworks couldn't sink any lower, but they have. Once again, Dreamworks takes the talent and creativity of Disney and Pixar and puts an urban twist on it. Think back to A Bug's Life and Antz which both came out the same year, the classic Finding Nemo and the easily forgotten Shark Tale which came out soon after Finding Nemo, and now Madagascar which Dreamworks rushed to get out before Disney could finish their work on their own animals escaping from the zoo and going to Africa film called The Wild. So that makes the third time that Dreamworks has copied Disney and Pixar's films. Not only do they copy the films but the copy the visual stylings. After watching the cartoony and bubbly feel of a trailer for Cars or the short film that came with Incredibles, Boundin', one can see that Pixar has begun to stray away from their attempt to mimick reality and make their films friendlier and more caricatured. Dreamworks, unexpectedly has made the same turn. In Shrek and Shrek 2, they shot for realism like Pixar was doing in its films, and now in Madagascar suddenly the film feels more cartoony. Once again Dreamworks is just attempting to follow Disney and Pixar's lead instead of blazing its own trails.

Story of friendship - Madagascar Reviews
Madagascar was great!! My 4 year old loved the action, as well as many of the jokes. What was even better was that the jokes were great for the adults, too.
The storyline was focused on the importance of friendship, and I will push that even further with my daughter with the fact that all of the friends were very different from one another. Yet they cared for one another and proved that friendship knows no bounds (especially when your best friend tries to eat you, as Alex the Lion did to Marty the Zebra!).
The only negative I could see about this film is that there were too many "main characters". There wasn't real focus on just the four animals that escaped the Central Park Zoo. However, with a movie geared towards kids, this is not necessarily a negative for them. They love for things to move fast and shift around, so children everywhere will most likely fall in love with all the characters involved.
This movie reminded me of "The Lion King", but I expected that with it having a lion as a featured character. Better than a lot of kids' flicks lately (Robots, Shark Tale, others), but probably won't be remembered like "Shrek". All in all a great, funny film that will remind even us adults who watch with our children that friendship is one of the most important things we can achieve in our lifetime.
Not as bad as you think. - Madagascar Reviews
I don't know why critics are being so hard on this movie. I really liked it. I thought all of the main characters, were well built, and the actors were great at voicing them. The lemurs, were also very funny, as were the penguins. With characters like these it doesnt really matter what happens in the moive, just how the characters react to it. I thought the whole plot with Alex wanting to eat Marty was weird, but the way it was exucuted was smart, and by the end of the film we learn a very importnat messgae of friendship. I highly recommend you see this movie, cuz you wont regret that you did.
A movie for all ages and maturaty levels! - Madagascar Reviews
Walking into the theater with your friends, family or whoever, you're probably thinking "Why did i come see some movie about some animals yet AGAIN?" Seriously, in the past few years we've had movies about tigers, lions and bear... oh my. But this movie is different. How?
YOU DON'T HAVE TO BE TWO TO ENJOY IT!
Seriously, I'm 16 and when i saw it I was thinking the same thing but the subtle adult jokes and direction actually made it it worthwhile. With the subtle references to drugs, sex and other things, only people with resonably dirty minds would find anything out of the normal with the movie while an 8 year will just find it completly innocent.
That's what's so great about the movie; it really is a movie for all ages. Take you kids, siblings or whoever is availabe at the time and see the movie. It's amazing for any age. Being 16 myself i didn't expect i'd like it but of course i did!
It's worth the money!

Great for everyone...but go with your own crowd - Madagascar Reviews
After seeing 8 screenings of this movie, I'm still laughing at some of the jokes and animal behavior (stealthy penguins Rock!). It's a great mix of adult and child humor. If you're a movie buff, you'll love this movie (there's probably a dozen subtle and not-so-subtle references to other movies throughout the show). If you love New York, you'll love this movie (the re-creation of various parts of NY is great...including the subway). If you're an animal lover, you'll love this movie (who can say no to a cute Lemur?)
Some advice: If you don't go with children, go to the late show. There's a couple not-so-greatly timed jokes in the movie. When children laugh uproarasly at the kiddy jokes, they cover up a couple adult jokes and you'll miss them. Also, if you don't know who Tom Wolfe is, Google his bio before you go or you'll wonder.
My only caution: if you have young, impressionable kids that like acting out movies, they might be saying 'shut up' a lot and spitting out water after the show (Remember the whole flushing goldfish down the toilets after 'Finding Nemo' thing?).
Madagascar - Madagascar Reviews
I just got back from taking my 5 and 6 year olds to see this film, which is a perfect example of a good idea gone awry. Animals escape from the zoo and go back to Africa--sounds like a great concept, right? But sadly, I found this film to be very inappropriate for kids. To start with, it has too much gratuitous violence--lots of scenes with characters punching, kicking, and slapping each other unnecessarily. Repeated to the point of overkill, it is just not funny. The penguins are cute until their leader starts to slap them around. Then to add insult to injury, they tie up and gag an innocent ship captain and slap him in the face for no reason while he is sitting there defenseless.
Just when you thought it was safe to take your kids back into the movie theater, you discover the sexual innuendo. Do children really need to see a hippo, the film's only female character, emerge from the water wearing starfish pasties and a crab covering her groin? And then kids are supposed to laugh when they pop off? The lion Alex is briefly shown being awakened from a sex dream during which he was feeling up his own back and was molding his arms in the air to trace the hourglass curves of a woman. The beach house the zebra builds simulates the appearance of a tropical cocktail lounge. Who is writing this stuff, and what were they thinking?
Maybe some kids will laugh at characters arm-farting and spitting water in each other's faces, but mine didn't, and when one character said "shut up" to another, my son sat up and exclaimed, "Mommy, he said "shut up!" If you're trying to teach your kids not to talk like this, you might want to be prepared to discuss it...
In addition to these elements, the story really peters out by the time the characters get to Madagascar. The break-dancing lemurs are cute and funny. But the film's protagonist, the lion, experiences no real character arc, and the only thing he seems to learn is that his animal friends don't look like a New York prime rib after all.
As much as I admire the considerable talent that went into making this film, I can't help but feel cheated and annoyed that Hollywood keeps churning out more and more smart-alecky, wise-cracking camp that really does little to edify children or take them to higher ground. Too many animated movies are rated PG or worse. Instead, kids are desensitized to violence and are overexposed to adult situations and altogether bad influences.
The Lion King, rated G, showed us that Hollywood can make animated movies which entertain and teach children a valuable lesson at the same time. I long for more movies like it--my kids have seen it many times and don't get tired of it, because children respond to the essential goodness in characters if they are illustrated with real art. It's as simple as that. So if you want an animal adventure, I would pass on Madagascar--instead, just rent or buy The Lion King and enjoy it with your kids.
Great kids movie that adults will enjoy! - Madagascar Reviews

I like to move it move it - Madagascar Reviews
I saw a sneak preview, so did not pay for my ticket. Madagascar was amusing and memorable. The combination of some of the actors performances, the selected music and the writing of the various jokes, made this movie fun for many. I know that people from 5 to 50+ had a good time.
One gentleman who was there (50+) wanted to know why so many kids were there, because this was an adult movie. The numerous jokes and visual effects will amuse the grown ups who see the movie. There were only a couple that I did not recognize, as they were references to recent adult movies. (I mostly see "kids movies" these last few years.)
My 11 year old leaned over before the movie was over to ask if we could buy the movie when it comes out on video/DVD. I buy very few movies, but told her yes, we certainly would get it.
If you enjoyed Shrek and it's multiple references to other parts of entertainment, you will likely have a blast. If you enjoy music, then you should see this movie, just to enjoy how the movie's scenes and the soundtrack are so well put together.
Madagascar's not perfect, but it's a lot of fun for kids from 5 to 55 at least. Enjoy!
For kids!!! children love it! - Madagascar Reviews
My kids, ages 6, 8 and 9 all loved it. The 9 year old was in tune with the penguins, the 8 year old related to the monkeys and the 6 year old fell in love with the lion. It has something for all aged children. I loved the penguins...the humor kept me not-too-bored as an adult....yet it was simple enough for the children to understand and actually appreciate...and actually "get"...they have been telling each other the same jokes from the movie over and over and then to their friends...that means the movie was worth seeing.
